#AdventuresinKekeland: Why I Complete Simple Tasks in a Tutu
The several people who made my day by stopping to compliment me on my high waisted metallic skirt last weekend all had something in common-they each wanted to know if I was going to or coming from somewhere special.
And yesterday when I woke up to a sad reminder of a beloved friend who passed away way too young and immediately decided to change my mood by donning my favorite Lane Bryant tutu. It wouldn't bring back his scathing sarcasm or sage advice but it would give me an extra pep in my step when I sorely needed one.
Several well-timed compliments later came the question again "did you go to church?" This time it was a cashier at Stop & Shop who was surprised that I "looked so nice" to go shopping for snacks.
I wanted to explain to her that I was a devoted member of bottomless mimosas baptist but I figured it was best to accept the compliment, pay for my Oreos, and keep it moving.
I've been known to roll into my favorite coffee shop on Saturday morning looking like a sloth but I've also been known to harness the power of a cocktail dress just to complete annotated bibliographies. Clothes are about self-expression not impressing strangers.
For some people bejeweled cardigans and layers of tulle aren't every day attire for but for me they're as normal a choice as ripped jeans and graphic tees. So is being silly which is exactly what I was doing in these pictures as I danced to D.R.A.M.’s “Broccoli” and posed for my (very patient) best friend for no other reason than I was bored with writer’s block, didn't feel up to brunch, and luckily left my camera in the backseat of my car.
Dressing up is good old fashioned fun and in Kekeland that's never required a special occasion. Oh and by the way Oreos are on sale!
