6 New Jersey Places to Celebrate Cinco de Mayo
So you’ve left your culturally insensitive outfit at home and you’re ready to celebrate Cinco De Mayo like a normal human being who has respect and empathy for others! There’s only one problem you have nowhere to go! No worries. I’ve rounded up my favorite places to shoot tequila and spill secrets below because nobody wants to turn up at a cheesy chain restaurant with rude people who wear other’s cultures as costumes.
1. Red Cadillac Union, New Jersey
They say you never forget your first and Red Cadillac was the very first place I fell in love with the frozen margarita. The service is almost as good as the steak nachos and with six shots of tequila for twenty-five dollars it’s a killer deal.
2. River & Rail Cranford, New Jersey
So I’ll admit at first I only went to River and Rail to flex next to the outdoor fireplace but after a while it became one of my favorite spots. Get a flavored margarita on the rocks and play drunk connect four with friends. Just make sure to walk a few blocks away when it’s closing time to avoid those surcharges because downtown Cranford is surprisingly festive.
3. Toro Loco South Orange, New Jersey
Toro Loco often gets overlooked because of the awesome martini bar that’s across the street but the food is phenomenal. You might have to hold your phone at an angle to get cute snaps outside but once your cross that threshold your stomach will see it’s super lit.
4. Villa Tequila Roselle Park, New Jersey
Villa Tequila serves drinks in instagram worthy mason jars at “we know you don’t paid until next week prices.” What’s not to love?
5. Echo Tap & Grille, Mountainside, New Jersey
My friends were hounding me about checking this place out forever (hey Dee!) but I was not trying to deal with Route 22 traffic. Then the Jersey urban planning gods smiled on me and I found a shortcut to their fabulous quesadillas and sweet sangria. I was sold.
6. Moonshine Modern Supper Club Millburn, New Jersey
Moonshine Modern Supper Club’s wine selection is superb but the decor is what really makes this place stand out. I’ve been coming here in search of my favorite Riesling from the Finger Lakes for years and I have yet to be disappointed. If you’re looking to avoid rowdy college students and keep it classy (or as classy as you can appear to be while looking to get your liver to play hopscotch because Friday).
Honorable Mention: DJ Shy and DJ MPure are hosting #CincoDeJersey at Hotel Indigo’s Skylab. RVSP now for free admission and access to drink specials. The hotel is walking distance from Penn Station so you can save on car services while staying safe!
