Newark Ashley Stewart Celebrates 1 Year by Collaborating in Style
Like the City of Newark itself there was many who tried to write Ashley Stewart off. But the plus-size retailer emerged from its trials triumphant with a new marketing strategy, and a renewed commitment to corporate social responsibility. Examples of both could be found this week at the one year anniversary of the opening of their newest Newark store.
The brand opted to share the spotlight at their anniversary party with local vendors to further their longstanding relationship with the city.
Skincare brand Love Yourself was front and center. Boasting a “Dominican formula” the brand was founded by a mom who had just been told that her infant son was diagnosed with late stage cancer.
“After a lot of crying, praying, and research” she exhausted all of her resources to go completely organic in an effort to try and save her son’s life. “I made everything from scratch from the food I fed him to the products I used on his skin and hair.” Even after her son was able to overcome his illness she continued being “an organic mom” and soon found herself overrun with requests from friends and family members for the products she had developed during her darkest hour.
Customers flocked to her table checking out the charcoal mud soaps, lemongrass hair and skin buttercreme, and other options.
Attendees were able to get their eyelashes and makeup done on the spot by Graffiti Glamour who showed up with a variety of shades as diverse as the Ashley Stewart customer.
These two small businesses are just two of the many that have popped up as Newark natives have continued to embrace the city’s entrepreneurial spirit.
Even the DJ was from Newark.
He played signature Jersey style house music as partygoers two-stepped and twirled their way around the dressing room area.
Even the employees were having a great time chatting with clients and one another over cupcakes and customized bottles of water bearing the brand’s signature pink.
Full-figured pageant winners were on the scene embracing one another and showing off their sashes.
Located in University Heights the store serves as a “lab store” featuring features like plush furniture, a vibrant color scheme, wi-fi, and an extended lingerie section.
And while the store is designed to determine what factors wow the customers on the sales what really stood out about Ashley Stewart on this sunny Saturday was something that couldn’t be measured by Google analytics- good old fashioned fun.
