Chancellor Avenue’s Weequahic High School was covered in holiday cheer on December 15th as some of hip-hop’s biggest stars lent a helping hand to the city of Newark.

Charlamagne Tha God and DJ Envy of Power 105 FM’s Breakfast Club, Grammy-winning rapper and actor Common, joined Mayor Ras J. Baraka in partnering with the Homeless Coalition to feed more than 300 people in need.

This buffet style community dinner also provided attendees with access to health screenings, and giveaways.

While the Breakfast Club promotes social efforts on the air with initiatives like Change 4 Change each member of the highly rated four-hour morning show each member has integrated philanthropic efforts into their off air lives.

DJ Envy has shown a soft spot for Brick City this holiday season.

On December 12th he and his wife and Casey Crew podcast co host Gia Casey sponsored a toy drive at the Love of Jesus Family Church on Boylan Street with Body of God clothing line owner Ladun Thompson.

Charlamagne Tha God has consistently visits school to deter children from encountering some of the self inflicted obstacles he did while taking his unconventional path to success. He also hosts annual Turkey Giveaways in his hometown of Moncks, Corner South Carolina.

Public servant and Newark Greek Leadership Council President Tyrone Daye was front and center.

Grammy-nominated rapper and entrepreneur Fabolous stopped by to pitch in.

Volunteers got their celeb selfies in and shared smiles with one another and those they were serving.

It was an afternoon of service and fellowship in the spirit of what the holiday is all about.
