Cranford Yoga Studio Serves Lemonade With a Side of Love
It turns out lemonade stands aren’t just cute backdrops for witty T-Mobile commercials they’re a great way to bring a community together for a great cause! A Cranford yoga studio employed the retro tactic for a fundraiser on Saturday August 19th. Alluem Yoga, which has quickly become a staple of the small township, hosted “Peace, Love, and Lemonade” outside of its Lincoln Ave. location to benefit the Embody Love Movement, an organization dedicated to promoting self-love of girls and young women.
Founded by Dr. Melody Moore, the Embody Love Movement works to “to train and empower others to awaken the girls and women in their communities to celebrate their inner beauty, commit to kindness, and contribute to meaningful change in the world.”
Participants from the organization’s summer camp contributed to the fundraiser by manning the stand and making brightly colored signs to attract passersby. Cars stopped to contribute to the cause with one woman returning after she had previously taken off in a rush.
I found out about the fundraiser on social media and stopped by to make a small contribution and of course sip some sweet lemonade!
Cookies, pretzel sticks, novelty erasers, and tee shirts bearing the Embody Love Movement logo were also available for purchase. I was particularly taken with the blue mirrors on display declaring that “you are beautiful” and was super grateful to be gifted with a “Love Is The New Skinny” pin.
I made my way over to the side of the recently renovated building where Alluem is housed to get a clear view of the calming river but the most beautiful sight I encountered on this sunny Saturday was in an unexpected space.
Multi-colored chalk signs were present in the driveway reminding residents that the movement stands “love, kindness, (and) acceptance of all no matter where you’re from or what you look like.”
For young impressionable girls emphasizing the need for self-love is wildly important but in these tumultuous times loving people no matter what their background or appearance is a message we can all get behind.
