Okay maybe it was just my world but as my teacher shamed me for singing along I knew my JVC portable radio experience would never be the same.

Now nearly two full decades later the Ruff Ryders have reunited in service of all of my fourth grade gangsta fantasies. DMX, EVE Swizz Beatz, The Lox, and Drag-On are kicking off their reunion tour at the Barclay’s Center on April 21st.

Founded by brothers Joaquin and Darin Dean the label that was marked by its relationship with motorcycle culture, pit bulls, and iconic beats was home to a variety of hits that will sound just as good in Brooklyn as they did blaring in Branch Brook Park.

After Swizz Beatz’s and Just Blaze’s infamous Instagram live beat battle, and Diddy making the city party like it's 1999 nostalgia for the early aughts is appearing more places than the Rihanna runway show. Hopefully the Ruff Ryders are just one of many classic movements that are about to be properly celebrated.
