C Letter TV: 3 Reasons I'm Excited About 'Black-ish' Spin-Off Rumors

Entertainment outlets from Deadline Hollywood to the Hollywood Reporter are buzzing with the news of a potential “Black-ish” spinoff. I have been a fan of the hit ABC sitcom since day one and I would love to see the show’s universe expanded. The show would reportedly follow eldest Johnson daughter Zoe, played by the talented Yara Shadidi, as she goes off to college à la “A Different World”. Here are the three things I’m most excited to see from this offshoot of Kenya Barris’ brainchild.

1. More Zoe Zingers

While Diane is clearly the smartest of the Johnson clan Zoe is clearly the one with the most common sense and nowhere is that more apparent than her snappy comebacks. When she’s not snapping selfies or styling Teen Vogue shoots, she is quick to check her mom for stunting on the gram, Junior for rocking capes, and her uncle for falling for crazy pyramid schemes. I know she’ll be bringing her clapbacks to college but I’m lowkey concerned about how the Johnson clan will survive without her.

2. More Dre

Dre is very clear about "Zo-Zo" being his favorite child so I know he’ll be stopping by to check on her at school. Part unabashed sneakerfiend part loving husband and father this manchild is my favorite part of the show and I can't wait to see them on daddy-daughter adventures.

3. More Yara Shahidi Red Carpet Style

Like her TV mom Tracee Ellis Ross, Shahidi stands out as much for her signature style as she does her comedy chops. She has been consistently slaying! With the help of her stylist Ade Samuel she’s pulled off a variety of looks from “futuristic flapper girl” to “demure screen siren” clad in designers like OFF WHITE and Prada. I would love to see Shahidi continuing to crush it at press appearances and award ceremonies.

Are you a fan of ‘Black-ish’? What do you think of the spin-off rumors?
